It has always struck me that my brother, who in 2016 was murdered in his home while sleeping, had years of a lifetime ahead of him. But the murderer who cold bloodedly shot him erased all of those years with one horrific action. Stealing those years from my brother – erasing them – is the most horrific act of thievery any human being can commit.
The red in the painting represents blood. The cold frozen hand of the killer reflects their cold bloodedness. Their dark menacing shadow the killer casts represents their dark soul. The white outline of the figure is intentionally similar to the chalk outlines the police make around murder victims. The giant eraser is self explanatory: A murder victim’s present and future are being erased by the murderer’s horrific act. No person has the right to erase another’s future.
